Area Representatives

Area Representatives are individuals who are prepared to represent their community in dealing with West North West Homes in areas where there is little interest to form a traditional Tenants Group.

They can represent any area where there is not a Registered Tenants Group already in existence or being formed. There is no other restriction.

There is no set limit to the number of properties to be represented but not too large - perhaps enough to cover one or two blocks of flats, a sheltered scheme or one or two streets, maybe up to 200 homes.

The Area Representatives have to prove they represent their area by obtaining a number of signatures or holding a ballot. In either case a minimum of a third of tenants, in the area they cover, would need to respond. In return the Area Representative would receive all the mailings that West North West Homes send to Tenants & Residents Associations and would be invited to meetings that Tenant & Residents Associations are invited to.

Consultation with tenants in the area would normally take place by questionnaire and feedback form. Area Representatives will be given information by West North West Homes, in a form they can distribute, as early as possible in any consultation process.

Area Representatives will provide feedback by newsletter to tenants in their area, with help being given with writing, layout and reproduction, and by notice board if communal facilities are available.

Although there is no payment for being an Area Representative we will meet out of pocket expenses incurred in carrying out the role.

Area Representatives have to agree a simple Code of Conduct, which covers things like Equal Opportunities, and would have to step down if a Registered Tenants Group were formed for their area.
