Sheltered Housing is usually provided for people who are over the age of 60, are vulnerable due to ill health, frail or elderly. We currently have over 50 sheltered schemes containing over approximate 2,000 homes, ranging from purpose built accommodation, studio flats and bungalows to multi storey flats. Usually a warden will live on site or close by.
Most of our schemes have a communal area where residents and tenants living nearby can gather for social events such as coffee mornings. Each purpose built complex has a communal laundry comprising of at least one washing machine and tumble drier and a communal kitchen for use by the residents. Some schemes have a ‘guest room’ which can be rented out to family members who don’t live locally for a small fee.
All of our sheltered accommodation are fitted with an ‘alarm’ connected through to Care Ring, an emergency service that they can call on in an emergency.
Living in one of our sheltered housing can give you the peace of mind that comes with living in a comfortable and secure environment. For more information see the document on the right called 'Why choose Sheltered Housing'.
The schemes are designed so you can keep your independence, as there are a range of services aimed at giving you control over your life.
Available sheltered housing is advertised on the Leeds Homes Website (www.leedshomes.org.uk ). For further information please call 0800 915 1113.
Getting Involved
There are a range of ways in which you can be involved.
Your Sheltered Scheme may have Tenants & Residents Association in which you can become active. If there isn’t an Association and there is interest in starting one we can provide advice and practical help. Where there is no interest in forming a group you could become an Area Representative.
There is a Tenant Compact for Sheltered Housing and you could become involved in this. There is more information under the heading New Tenant Compact for Sheltered Housing.
There are also opportunities to become involved in measuring and improving our services by becoming a member of a Sounding Board or a Tenant Inspector.
For more details on becoming involved you can ring the Customer Involvement team on (0113) 2143669 or email wnwhl.involvement@wnwhl.org.uk
