Vulnerable tenants and those living in sheltered housing have access to Leeds City Council’s Care Ring alarm call service and Telecare. These services are provided to help tenants live more independently in their own home. The service is available 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.
Sheltered customers who require help can access the Care Ring service by pressing a button and their call will go through to the Care Ring control centre. A Care Ring alarm also has a pendant. One of the trained operators will speak to the customer through the alarm. If they need help they can arrange for somebody to visit, such as a member of their family, a neighbour or a warden. They also have a direct link to the ambulance service which can be used if there is an emergency.
If a caller is unable to speak, the operators at the control centre will know who has called and will send somebody to visit straight away.
We are currently reviewing the way services to our elderly customers are provided and the role we can play in broadening access to services for elderly and vulnerable customers. A key part of this will be to ensure we are making full use of technology to allow customers to live full and independent lives.
Customers who require a further service to meet their individual needs such as a fall detector, gas/carbon dioxide detector, medication reminder may require the service offered by Telecare. This service can only be installed after an assessment by for example an Occupational Therapist or physiotherapist
