Local Lettings Policies

The Leeds City Council Lettings Policy allows West North West Homes Leeds to have some local arrangements for deciding who can apply for homes. These can be considered where it will help to support a particular local community. Where a local lettings policy operates, we can give preference for offers of homes to a particular customer group. The most common type of policy is age related, for example, ‘preference will be given to customers aged over 55. Local Lettings policies have to be approved by Leeds City Council and we have to show evidence for why we think a particular policy will be useful. This may include customer research surveys or evidence from other research, local house prices which indicate that customers are prevented from buying affordable homes or evidence of tenancies to certain customer types being unsuccessful.

The Council reviews all Local Lettings Policies once per year.

Garage allocation policy

Anybody may apply for a garage. You can print off an application form from the website, pop into your local housing office or phone our freephone* number on 0800 915 1113.

Priority will be given to applicants who are already council tenants. If they are in rent arrears they will be asked to clear them before being allocated a garage.

If a garage is about to be disposed of or demolished, the tenant will be offered any vacant garage. Otherwise, it will be generally be offered to the person who has been on the waiting list for the longest, with the following priorities:

  • People who need space to keep mobility scooters
  • People who do not already rent a council garage
  • People in high rise blocks, flats, maisonettes or any properties which do not have outside space for a garage or on street parking

Where people have been on the waiting list for the same amount of time, priority will be given to the person who lives closest to the garage.

If there is nobody on the waiting list for that garage, it will be offered to anybody who contacts the ALMO to express interest.

*Standard charges apply when calling from a mobile
